When closed, the stiletto is "hidden" inside the handle. To use simply unscrew the top, remove the stiletto and screw it back into the top portion of the handle. The size of the stiletto is 6 when open and 4-3/4in when closed. Use it as a guide under the foot of your sewing machine. Helpful for turning applique edges and more! We LOVE using a stiletto here at MJs plus this one is beautiful. Swoon!
